Rabbits

Policy:The Pet Advisory Committee (PAC) is concerned that the welfare of rabbits kept as pets is often poorly understood and consequently often worse than other comparable companion animals such as cats and dogs.

Because of their complex requirements for feeding and housing PAC does not consider rabbits should be acquired without the potential owner having considerable knowledge of the rabbits? needs and not as a suitable cheap pet for a child. The need for proper feeding, housing and environmental enrichment should be important considerations when considering the purchase of a rabbit.

PAC is firmly of the view that the potential impulse purchase of rabbits should be strongly discouraged wherever the rabbit is purchased.
